UX/UI Designer – Unpaid, Remote

Location: Remote

Duration: 20 weeks (with potential to transition into a paid role + equity via ESOP)

Overview:

Paramount Students by Plentora is building the future of global student mobility. We are creating a digital ecosystem that connects students with high schools, universities, and verified education services, making the international study journey seamless, accessible, and community-driven.

We are seeking a UX/UI Designer with strong systems thinking to shape the end-to-end experience of our platform. In this leadership volunteer role, you’ll play a crucial part in crafting an intuitive, accessible, and visually compelling interface for students and institutions across the globe.

This is a volunteer, unpaid opportunity for experienced professionals who want to build something meaningful from the ground up. Top performers will be considered for future paid positions and equity options after our upcoming funding round.

Responsibilities:

  • User Research & Discovery: Conduct interviews, surveys, and usability tests with students, parents, and institutions to uncover pain points and opportunities.
  • Information Architecture: Define user flows, sitemaps, and navigation structures that support complex, multi-stakeholder journeys.
  • Wireframing & Prototyping: Create low-to-high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes in Figma to validate concepts quickly.
  • Visual & Interaction Design: Develop a modern, accessible UI system using TailwindCSS principles, ensuring consistency across components and screens.
  • Design Systems: Build and maintain a scalable design system with reusable patterns, tokens, and documentation for product and engineering teams.
  • Accessibility: Ensure WCAG compliance and inclusive design practices are embedded from the start.
  • Collaboration: Partner with engineers to ensure pixel-perfect implementation and smooth handoff; work with product to balance user needs with business goals.
  • UX Writing: Craft clear, concise microcopy that guides users and reduces cognitive load.
  • Data-Driven Iteration: Use analytics, heatmaps, and user feedback to continuously refine the experience.
  • Mentorship: Guide junior designers and advocate for design-thinking practices across the team.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of professional UX/UI design experience, preferably in edtech, marketplaces, or multi-sided platforms.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end design process (research → iteration → final UI) for web applications.
  • Expert proficiency in Figma, including auto-layout, components, variables, and prototyping.
  • Hands-on experience designing with TailwindCSS or utility-first design frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of responsive design, performance constraints, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Familiarity with agile workflows, Git-based design file versioning (e.g., branching in Figma), and remote collaboration tools (Notion, Miro, Jira).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate design rationale to non-designers.
  • Experience in startups or 0-to-1 product environments is a strong plus.

What You’ll Gain:

  • Opportunity to shape the digital experience of an education platform serving a global student audience.
  • Experience building a user-focused product from 0 to 1.
  • Direct impact on platform usability, accessibility, and scalability.
  • Chance to join an ambitious team working on a global mission in edtech.
  • Leadership visibility and the potential to transition into a paid role with equity (ESOP) after funding.

Application Process:

To apply, please send us:

  • Your updated CV or LinkedIn profile
  • A short cover letter explaining your relevant experience, what excites you about Paramount Students, and how you envision your impact
  • Your portfolio with 2–3 case studies that demonstrate research, design decisions, and outcomes (live projects or password-protected links accepted)

Shortlisted candidates will:

  • Answer a few screening questions about your design process
  • Optionally complete a brief UX challenge (if portfolio is limited)
  • Be invited for a 30-minute interview with our Product or Design Lead
