Daring House is seeking a specialized Texture & Shading Artist to join the team for an upcoming 6DOF narrative VR project.


Mandatory Requirement

The Role

In this role, you will be the guardian of the project’s unique visual soul. You are responsible for translating a hand-drawn illustration style into a cohesive 3D environment.


You will report directly to the Art Director and work in close collaboration with the 3D Artist to ensure that all volumetric assets and environments maintain the project's "personal diary" aesthetic.


Key Responsibilities
  • Style Implementation: Apply the specific graphic artist aesthetic, ensuring color blurs and ink outlines are correctly represented on 3D models and 2D cutouts.
  • Shader Development: Create and optimize custom shaders in Unity to achieve a non-photorealistic, sketch-like look.
  • Atmospheric Progression: Manage the evolution of the visual palette, transitioning from cold, muted tones to a warm, full-color finale as the story progresses .
  • AI-Assisted Workflow: Utilize the latest AI technologies for texture generation, material synthesis, or upscaling to optimize the production pipeline.
  • Asset Collaboration: Partner with the 3D Artist to ensure clean UV mapping and efficient map baking for real-time VR performance.


Technical Requirements
  • Software: Expert proficiency in Unity (URP/Shader Graph), Adobe Photoshop, and Blender.
  • AI Integration: Proven experience using AI tools (e.g., Stable Diffusion, AI material generators) to enhance texture workflows.
  • Non-Photorealistic Rendering (NPR): A strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to replicate hand-drawn or painterly styles in 3D.
  • VR Performance: Knowledge of how complex shading and high-resolution textures impact performance and comfort in 6DOF environments.
