Board Member - with NGO Experience (preferred)
Join SHARKPROJECT International as a volunteer Board Member and bring your NGO experience to support and guide our global marine conservation efforts. We are looking for someone who has experience at the board or leadership level in non-profit or mission-driven organizations.
Purpose of the Role
SHARKPROJECT International is dedicated to conserving sharks and their habitats through science-based advocacy, education, and policy reform. As a Board Member, you will contribute to the organization’s strategic direction by offering guidance and advocacy in support of SHARKPROJECT’s vision.
Main Responsibilities
Strategic Guidance & Oversight
- Participate in regular Board meetings to provide strategic input and oversight on organizational direction, risk, and long-term priorities.
- Contribute to setting high-level goals and evaluating progress toward mission impact.
- Support the Expert Council with advice, perspective, and strategic feedback.
Governance & Compliance
- Uphold SHARKPROJECT’s commitment to transparency, ethics, and legal compliance.
- Review and advise on organizational policies, bylaws, and governance frameworks.
Advocacy & Fundraising Support (advisory only)
- Act as an ambassador for SHARKPROJECT within your networks and professional circles.
- Support fundraising efforts through introductions, ideas, and strategic input where relevant.
- Provide occasional input on donor engagement, partnerships, or public outreach if aligned with your expertise.
Qualifications & Profile
- Marine Conservation Knowledge (preferred): Background or interest in marine science, conservation policy, or environmental advocacy.
- Governance & Leadership Experience: Prior experience on a nonprofit or advisory board is highly valued.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to provide high-level input on complex issues in conservation, governance, or fundraising.
- Diplomacy & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and supportive mindset.
- Cultural Awareness: Experience working with international and multidisciplinary teams.
- Mission-Driven: Genuine interest in shark and ocean conservation and alignment with SHARKPROJECT’s values.
