Role Overview
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) leads the development of standards-aligned, phenomena-based instructional content for assigned science courses (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics & Earth and). The SME ensures scientific accuracy, alignment with the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Science (OASS), and the coherence of inquiry-driven learning experiences.
The SME is responsible for developing science storylines and pacing guides, integrating anchoring phenomena, and contributing to both pilot and parallel development phases within a structured, template-driven workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop standards-aligned science storylines and pacing guides using Oklahoma-relevant anchoring phenomena
- Ensure alignment with OASS, including performance expectations, Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs), and Crosscutting Concepts (CCCs), with appropriate cognitive rigor
- Integrate inquiry-based learning through driving questions, investigations, and evidence-based reasoning
- Incorporate local context, data sources, and real-world applications into instructional content
- Collaborate with Instructional Designers to apply templates and maintain instructional coherence
- Participate in pilot development and incorporate feedback into scaled course development
- Leverage AI tools for drafting while ensuring accuracy, originality, and instructional quality.
