Job Description:

We are looking for a part-time creative and enthusiastic Storyteller (our term for Dungeon Master/Game Master) to lead and guide young people through immersive, story-driven Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) adventures. The ideal candidate will be passionate about storytelling, and be able to engage young people between the ages of 7 and 17. The Storyteller will use D&D 5e to help the young people develop aspects such as critical thinking, creative problem solving, teamwork, and leadership skills, in a fun and imaginative environment. The Storyteller will have a positive impact on the confidence of their players and, above all, use the game to inspire and empower children and young people in a safe and non-judgemental space. Experience working with individuals with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or challenging backgrounds is also desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Campaign Creation: Design and plan custom Dungeons & Dragons campaigns and adventures tailored to the needs and developmental levels of the young players (ages 7-17), working alongside our Senior Leader Team (SLT) and Clinical Director.
  • Storytelling: Craft and present compelling narratives that engage players, encouraging creativity and imagination. Bring the world, characters, and plotlines to life through storytelling.
  • Character Development: Assist players in creating and developing their characters, guiding them through the mechanics of character creation and helping them bring their characters to life within the story.
  • Game Mastering: Maintain a good understanding of D&D 5th edition rules (or other systems as required) and guide players through the mechanics in a way that is engaging and easy to understand for newcomers.
  • Maintain Organisation: Being highly organised, punctual and having good timekeeping is essential due to the nature of the work. You will be responsible for completing forms at the end of each game session to support smooth operations.

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience as a Dungeon Master or Game Master, preferably with D&D 5th edition.
  • Passion for storytelling, world-building, and creative writing.
  • Ability to engage young people and foster a sense of adventure and discovery.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to guide players of varying experience levels.
  • Patience and empathy, especially when working with younger audiences, players who are new to role-playing games, and those with Additional needs.
  • Experience working with youth, ideally in a mentorship or educational context.
  • Organisational skills to plan and coordinate regular sessions.

Work Environment:

  • Most sessions will take place in person at schools, but others may be in community centres, libraries, or youth clubs.
  • May involve collaboration with educators, youth leaders, or other program coordinators to align storytelling with broader educational goals.
  • The work environment is one where team members support each other, share knowledge, and work together towards a common goal of helping young people. Communication is open, trust and respect are strong, and everyone is dedicated to both their roles and the success of the organisation. It’s a positive space where people feel valued and motivated to do their best.
