Digitalbox Publishing is looking for an experienced and ambitious Social Media Editor to help lead the social media strategy across multiple entertainment-focused news brands within the Entertainment Daily Group.


You will be responsible for growing audiences and audience engagement, increasing traffic from social platforms, acquisition of existing pages outside the company, and developing innovative ways to distribute content across primarily Facebook, but also X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and emerging platforms.


This role requires a natural affinity with what works on social platforms combined with editorial expertise, data-driven decision-making, audience development, and creative storytelling to ensure our expanding range of entertainment brands remain competitive and highly engaging.

You will work with the Editor-in-Chief, Audience Development Editor and site Editors to execute a high-impact, multi-platform strategy.


Key ResponsibilitiesDaily Duties (tactical & execution-focused)

  • Oversee real-time social media posting, ensuring rapid responses to breaking news and viral trends
  • Working closely with the site editors, devise the optimal daily social content schedules for all brands and relevant platforms
  • Monitor trending topics, hashtags, and social media conversations to capitalise on opportunities
  • Ensure headline, caption, and thumbnail optimisation for maximum engagement on social platforms.
  • Manage social media crisis response (negative engagement, misinformation, brand reputation).
  • Review real-time analytics (via NewsWhip, Emplifi, Google Analytics, Parse.ly) and adjust strategies accordingly


Weekly Duties (strategic adjustments & growth-focused)

  • Conduct weekly performance reviews, analysing engagement metrics, referral traffic, and social reach
  • Optimise content distribution strategy across the sites’ platforms, tailoring for different audience segments
  • Lead editorial social planning meetings to align social content with the editorial calendar
  • Oversee community engagement strategies, ensuring audience interaction and loyalty-building
  • Review competitor performance on social media and adjust strategies accordingly
  • Provide training sessions to journalists and editors on best social media practices


Monthly Duties (long-term planning & brand growth)

  • Develop and refine the overall social media strategy in alignment with company goals
  • Conduct deep-dive performance analysis to identify long-term trends, audience shifts, and content opportunities
  • Experiment with new content formats and emerging platforms
  • Plan and oversee major social campaigns around key entertainment events (BAFTAs, Eurovision, Celebrity Weddings/ Royal Duties).
  • Coordinate with SEO and digital teams to optimise content for social and search discovery
  • Manage partnerships with social media platforms (liaise with Meta, TikTok etc. reps).
  • Report to senior leadership on progress, opportunities, and future growth strategies


Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in leading social media strategy for a major news, entertainment, or media brand
  • Proven experience managing Facebook pages with 1million+ followers
  • Strong editorial judgment with an ability to balance newsworthiness and social virality
  • Deep understanding of platform algorithms, audience engagement, and social trends
  • Experience working with teams of editors, designers, and community managers
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in using social media insights tools (e.g. NewsWhip, Google Analytics)
  • Ability to adapt and react quickly to breaking news and trending stories
  • Experience working with influencers, creators, and UGC strategies
  • Strong understanding of video distribution on social media (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram Reels)
  • Experience managing paid social campaigns and boosting organic reach
  • Exceptional communication skills
