Position: Senior Project Manager
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and carrying out the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex technical projects, programs, initiatives and solutions in alignment with organisational goals and strategic direction of the Business and IT.
This role demands a blend of leadership, technical acumen, strong technical delivery management skills and stakeholder management, to ensure technical deliveries are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The Senior Project Manager acts as a central point of coordination between development teams, quality assurance, technical product ownership, and project management, facilitating seamless delivery and proactive risk management.
The Senior Project Manager performs a significant role within BDO and will be working directly with multiple diverse stakeholders including internal and external business owners, supplier and vendor partners, business partners and sponsors to deliver quality outcomes which are of a consistently high standard.
Key accountabilities
Technical Delivery Leadership
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of large-scale technical projects, programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies and objectives.
- Lead complex technical deliveries, managing technical delivery team resources, project scope, timelines, and budgets to meet quality and performance standards.
- Advocate, mentoring delivery teams to ensure projects and initiatives within programs are compliant to technical standards, frameworks, and governance best practices.
- Ensure program and project technical documentation is maintained to a high standard of quality.
- Support the Technical Portfolio Manager with strategic planning in line with Business demands.
Team Coordination and Collaboration
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, quality assurance, product ownership, and the PMO, to facilitate cohesive program and project technical delivery.
- Act as a liaison between technical teams and senior leaders and business stakeholders to ensure alignment of technical solutions with business requirements.
- Drive a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation within technical teams.
- Manage vendor relationships for successful delivery.
Risk Management and Problem-Solving
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks and challenges to ensure project continuity and success, escalating in a timely manner.
- Proactively identifying, addressing and managing bottlenecks and dependencies across teams to ensure efficient delivery.
- Proactive escalation of significant risks or issues to senior leadership with actionable recommendations and providing timely updates
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Track and monitor program, project and budget progress using established performance metrics, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of project documentation, including plans, risk registers, budget tracking and status reports.
- Analyse project outcomes to identify lessons learned and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure timely reporting for various stakeholders and meetings e.g. quarterly reports, IITC etc
Process Improvement and Innovation
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance technical delivery efficiency, quality, and scalability.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to inform technical strategies.
- Foster the adoption of tools, methodologies, and automation to streamline delivery processes.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, Agile, Scrum, ITIL).
- Masters in a relevant field advantageous.
- 10+ years of experience in technical project or delivery management, with a strong focus on development, infrastructure, or related domains, and people management
- Proven track record of delivering large scale, complex technical projects and products in a cross-functional, collaborative environment.
- Effectively demonstrates exceptional leadership, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and integrity, with experience of driving the best from teams located in multiple locations and time zones.
- Proven ability to effectively engage with business stakeholders to clarify and understand their business requirements and manage competing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects and project coordinators.
- Experience working with multiple third-party vendors and partners to deliver complex information technology projects.
- Understanding of systems, development methodologies and architecture.
- Experience transitioning technology solutions into operational environments.
- Ability to establish and adhere to strict project timeframes.
- Demonstrate the ability to balance priorities among competing needs whilst providing the highest level of value to BDO.
- Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
- Financial literacy to forecast and manage project budgets.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence and drive other team members, and to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
