Position Overview:
The Director of Marketing – Growth & Digital will build and lead WHEN's digital-first, performance-driven marketing function. Reporting directly to the CEO, this leader is responsible for designing and operationalizing a scalable growth engine that translates narrative momentum into sustained audience growth, measurable performance, and revenue impact across campaigns.
This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role. The ideal candidate brings systems thinking and the ability to build marketing infrastructure from the ground up — while actively driving execution. They are comfortable defining growth strategy and driving day-to-day performance across channels, with strong experience in digital marketing, experimentation, and conversion optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
Growth Strategy & Integrated Go-to-Market Leadership
- Define and execute an integrated marketing strategy aligned with organizational and fundraising priorities
- Translate brand strategy and narrative architecture into scalable, multi-channel execution frameworks
- Develop annual and quarterly marketing roadmaps with clear performance targets
- Partner closely with Portfolio and Legal Strategy to align campaign launches with growth and revenue goals
- Establish clear marketing ownership of audience growth and performance metrics
Audience Growth & Performance Discipline
- Build scalable audience acquisition and engagement strategies across owned, organic, and paid channels
- Establish testing and experimentation frameworks that improve performance over time
- Drive conversion optimization across campaigns, landing pages, and donation pathways
- Build repeatable launch playbooks capable of supporting increasing campaign volume
- Ensure campaign performance strengthens overall audience and revenue systems rather than operating in isolation
Content & Channel Leadership
- Oversee social, video, and owned channel strategy and operations
- Ensure channel execution aligns with brand guardrails while optimizing for audience engagement and growth
- Strengthen collaboration between content, campaign strategy, and performance measurement
- Clarify workflows and reduce approval friction to increase iteration speed
Fundraising & Revenue Alignment
- Partner with fundraising leadership to align campaign visibility with revenue goals
- Support fundraising strategy and execution as the function develops with a focus on digital crowdfunding
- Translate audience engagement into sustainable funding streams
- Ensure marketing metrics connect clearly to revenue outcomes
Systems, Reporting & Accountability
- Implement marketing dashboards and KPI frameworks
- Define and track metrics for audience growth, engagement, conversion, and revenue contribution
- Manage marketing budget and ensure disciplined allocation of resources
- Build scalable documentation and operational processes as the organization grows
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Analytics, or related field
- 8+ years progressive marketing experience, including experience building or scaling an integrated marketing function
- Demonstrated success driving measurable audience growth and performance outcomes across digital channels
- Experience developing and executing integrated go-to-market strategies in mission-driven, nonprofit, advocacy, or high-growth environments
- Strong digital fluency across owned, organic, and paid channels, including experience with experimentation and conversion optimization
- Proven ability to translate brand strategy into disciplined, performance-oriented execution
- Experience implementing reporting frameworks, dashboards, and KPI tracking systems
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and collaborating across brand, strategy, and fundraising functions
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving, evolving environment with high standards for rigor and credibility
- Strong judgment, communication skills, and ability to partner directly with CEO-level leadership
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: Competitive, sr. director-level compensation commensurate with experience and consideration for geographic location. Expected annual salary range is $170,000–$190,000.
