About Us:

WHEN Justice is a mission-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit using capital, media, and the law to hold corporations accountable for environmental and human harm. By identifying high-impact legal cases and funding them via compelling public campaigns, WHEN helps move critical cases into the courtroom, mobilizing communities to support accountability and drive systemic change.

Position Overview:

The Director of Marketing – Growth & Digital will build and lead WHEN's digital-first, performance-driven marketing function. Reporting directly to the CEO, this leader is responsible for designing and operationalizing a scalable growth engine that translates narrative momentum into sustained audience growth, measurable performance, and revenue impact across campaigns.

This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role. The ideal candidate brings systems thinking and the ability to build marketing infrastructure from the ground up — while actively driving execution. They are comfortable defining growth strategy and driving day-to-day performance across channels, with strong experience in digital marketing, experimentation, and conversion optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish testing and experimentation frameworks that improve performance over time
  • Drive conversion optimization across campaigns, landing pages, and donation pathways
  • Build repeatable launch playbooks capable of supporting increasing campaign volume
  • Ensure campaign performance strengthens overall audience and revenue systems rather than operating in isolation

Content & Channel Leadership

  • Oversee social, video, and owned channel strategy and operations
  • Ensure channel execution aligns with brand guardrails while optimizing for audience engagement and growth
  • Strengthen collaboration between content, campaign strategy, and performance measurement
  • Clarify workflows and reduce approval friction to increase iteration speed

Fundraising & Revenue Alignment

  • Partner with fundraising leadership to align campaign visibility with revenue goals
  • Support fundraising strategy and execution as the function develops with a focus on digital crowdfunding
  • Translate audience engagement into sustainable funding streams
  • Ensure marketing metrics connect clearly to revenue outcomes

Systems, Reporting & Accountability

  • Implement marketing dashboards and KPI frameworks
  • Define and track metrics for audience growth, engagement, conversion, and revenue contribution
  • Manage marketing budget and ensure disciplined allocation of resources
  • Build scalable documentation and operational processes as the organization grows

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Analytics, or related field
  • 8+ years progressive marketing experience, including experience building or scaling an integrated marketing function
  • Demonstrated success driving measurable audience growth and performance outcomes across digital channels
  • Experience developing and executing integrated go-to-market strategies in mission-driven, nonprofit, advocacy, or high-growth environments
  • Strong digital fluency across owned, organic, and paid channels, including experience with experimentation and conversion optimization
  • Proven ability to translate brand strategy into disciplined, performance-oriented execution
  • Experience implementing reporting frameworks, dashboards, and KPI tracking systems
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and collaborating across brand, strategy, and fundraising functions
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, evolving environment with high standards for rigor and credibility
  • Strong judgment, communication skills, and ability to partner directly with CEO-level leadership
