Summary

In partnership with the EMEA Sub-region Medical Heads, overall leadership of field medical teams in this region. Oversee Field Medical strategy, planning, development, logistics and tactical execution of field plans, projects and initiatives. In partnership with the Head of Global Medical Excellence, implement Field Medical Excellence, supported by appropriate tools, processes training and performance measures. Organize and lead programs to foster cross-functional collaboration and medical leadership across the EMEA medical organization.

Responsibilities

Supervision and leadership of European Field Medical Organization

  • Supervise and oversee the work of the field medical teams across countries in Europe, including the development and execution of medical field planning, external engagement and monitoring.
  • Oversee the recruitment of Field Managers and support them with the timely recruitment of their MSLs
  • Input into designing and deploying field-medical team structure and sizing through defining approaches for MSL capacity planning, resource allocation and coverage of hospitals/ centers.
  • Oversee the mappings of country Medical Experts (MEs) and other field medical stakeholders in Insmed’s disease areas of interest, ensuring that annual scientific engagement plans are in place and executed on.
  • Ensure strong engagement, relationship development and scientific exchange with identified MEs.
  • Ensure the collaboration of the MSL team with Clinical Operations through engagement with Insmed study sites and investigators, according to an agreed upon and established plan.
  • Manage field specific operational budgets, ensuring consistency of resource deployment and utilization based on medical strategy and tactical execution.
  • In partnership with the EMEA Sub-region Medical Heads execute performance reviews for MSLs / MSL Managers and establish a performance review framework for MSLs.
  • Ensure Field Medical Team members have individual Development Plans are in place, and that they are reviewed on an ongoing basis
  • Partners with Field Medical leadership in other regions and contributes to the definition metrics of Medical Impact and Field Medical Performance
  • In partnership with the EMEA Sub-region Medical Heads monitors and reports performance metrics for EU Field Medical and adjust the deployment to address unmet areas of needs.

Implementation of Field Medical Excellence Capabilities

  • In partnership with the Head of Global Medical Excellence develop and oversee the strategy and implementation of an aligned plan to ensure continuous improvement and Field Medical Excellence across the European Field Medical Organization
  • Coordinate the deployment and oversee the effective use of field medical tools, processes, CRM, and other field medical applications
  • Define MSL capabilities and competencies and oversee their development in the countries
  • Work with Business Analytics resources to provide tools and monitor the synthesis/ consolidation of country MSL activities, outcomes & performance into country and EU reports
  • Establish process and tools for effective gathering, analysis and internal communication of clinical insights and support integration of key insights into shaping of medical strategies, tactics, tools, and initiatives, including incorporating the unmet evidence requirements of the HCPs and Payers into the strategic and evidence plans as appropriate
  • In partnership with Global Medical Training, ensure robust technical training, job skills and professional development.
  • Ensure full compliance with corporate SOPs, policies, and local regulations
  • Provide leadership, input and collaboration while facilitating exchange of best practices, and leverage key approaches, for the benefit of the whole team
  • Develop Field Medical standards, reward and appropriately incentivize application of those standards e.g. collaboration, accountability, passion, respect, honesty, integrity, transparency, sense of urgency with a strong sense of purpose and patient focus

Fostering Medical collaboration and leadership to operate across Europe as One High-Performing Team

  • Put in place and execute initiatives to develop strong medical leadership capabilities and a clear medical identity and purpose across Insmed Europe, with appropriate KPIs measuring value and impact.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President Head of EMEA Medical Affairs and the EMEA Sub-region Medical Heads, ensure the consistency, alignment, and execution of the field medical plans which are aligned with Global, Regional, and Country Strategy
  • In partnership with the Head of Global Medical Excellence ensures alignment of EMEA Field Medical Excellence strategy and capabilities with Global, US and Japan field excellence strategies, taking into account regional differences in the execution of MSL roles.
  • Collaborate across all internal medical functions, EMEA, US, and Japan medical affairs as One Medical.
  • Drive mutual understanding of field medical and commercial roles, and appropriate collaboration and communication according to the specific goals and purpose of field medical engagement.
  • Enable a culture and where possible resources to support cross-functional partnership, sharing, and alignment as One INSMED, e.g. For account planning
  • Oversee periodic EMEA MSL team-building events to foster teamwork and knowledge/ best-practice sharing between countries.
  • Strategic alignment with the global medical affairs team and cross-functional partners

Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong and dynamic leadership skills.
  • Experienced in building, developing, and maintaining High-performing Field Medical Teams.
  • Ability to position Field Medical as a strategic partner to the EMEA organization and build effective working relationships throughout the organization and with cross-functional business partners and departments to achieve business goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve Field Medical challenges with innovative solutions along with strong organizational skills

Qualifications M.D. preferred with minimum 10 years Field Medical experience leading MSL teams across multiple European Countries and therapy areas. Minimum 8+ years of developing and leading pre- and post-launch field medical teams and a track record of at least 2 successful launches in the EMEA region in the last 5 years.
