This leadership role sits at the core of building and scaling clinical operations for an innovative oncology program developing next-generation targeted cancer therapies. You will be the foundational hire responsible for shaping clinical operations strategy while directly overseeing the execution of a Phase 1/2 study in a fast-moving biotech environment. Acting as both a hands-on operator and strategic leader, you will ensure trials are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest scientific and regulatory standards. You will build the clinical operations function from the ground up, establishing systems, SOPs, and scalable processes to support future pipeline growth. The role requires close collaboration with clinical, regulatory, and executive leadership teams, with direct reporting to the Chief Medical Officer. Accountabilities
In this role, you will lead end-to-end clinical operations for oncology programs while building the foundational infrastructure needed for scalable growth.
- Lead execution of Phase 1/2 oncology clinical trials, ensuring timely, high-quality, and budget-compliant delivery
- Build and scale the clinical operations function, including hiring, onboarding, and mentoring initial team members
- Develop and implement SOPs, operational frameworks, and systems to support clinical trial execution and future expansion
- Oversee clinical trial budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation, ensuring financial discipline and risk management
- Manage CROs and external vendors, including selection, contract negotiation, oversight, and performance management
- Drive study planning, risk mitigation, and scenario planning to proactively address operational challenges
- Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical, scientific, and executive stakeholders to align strategy and execution
This position requires deep experience in clinical operations within biotech or pharmaceutical environments, particularly in oncology and early-phase trials.
- 10+ years of experience in pharma or biotech clinical operations, including at least 5+ years in oncology (Phase 1 and 2 studies required)
- Proven experience leading end-to-end global clinical trials, including startup, execution, and database lock
- Track record of building and scaling clinical operations teams in early-stage or high-growth biotech environments
- Strong expertise in CRO and vendor management, including contracting and performance oversight
- Solid financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning for clinical programs
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with proficiency in tools such as Excel, MS Project, or Smartsheet
- Ability to operate in high-ambiguity environments with strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent communication and executive presence, with experience presenting to senior leadership and stakeholders
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to balance strategic thinking and operational execution
