Stichting TMIH (Tropical Medicine and International Health) is eigenaar van het medisch-wetenschappelijke tijdschrift Tropical Medicine & International Health, uitgegeven door Wiley. De stichting heeft als doel het stimuleren van hoogwaardig onderzoek en publicaties op het gebied van infectieziekten, tropische geneeskunde en global health. Via onze editor, Leon Bijlmakers, onderhoudt de stichting nauwe contacten met de overige editors en de uitgever Wiley.
Voor het bestuur zijn wij op zoek naar een nieuwe secretaris.
Wie zoeken wij?
Een enthousiaste en betrokken persoon die zich wil inzetten voor tropische geneeskunde, global health en/of infectieziekten. Je hoeft geen arts te zijn: wij verwelkomen ook kandidaten uit de publieke gezondheidszorg, onderzoek, NGO’s, beleid, communicatie of andere relevante achtergronden.
Wij zoeken iemand die:
• affiniteit heeft met tropische geneeskunde, global health en internationale gezondheidszorg
• gemotiveerd is om publicaties en kennisdeling binnen het vakgebied te stimuleren
• zich mondeling en schriftelijk kan uitdrukken in Nederlands én Engels
• bij voorkeur organisatorische vaardigheden heeft
• bij voorkeur een netwerk heeft binnen global health, in Nederland of internationaal
• nauwkeurig werkt en bestuurscommunicatie goed kan verzorgen
Ervaring in LMIC-settings (als AIGT, medisch specialist, public health professional of NGO-medewerker) en/of ervaring met onderwijs is een pre, maar geen vereiste.
Wat ga je doen?
Als secretaris ondersteun je de bestuurlijke continuïteit van Stichting TMIH en zorg je voor de verslaglegging, communicatie en agenda-afstemming. Je werkt samen met een klein, gemotiveerd en multidisciplinair bestuur.
De functie omvat:
• 2-3 bestuursvergaderingen per jaar (meestal online, ’s avonds; ± 1,5 uur per keer)
• een totale tijdsinvestering van ongeveer max. 1-2 uur per maand
• samenwerking met de editor en contacten met tijdschriftpartners waar nodig
• denk je mee over de koers en strategie van de stichting en het tijdschrift
• draag je bij aan de agenda van het bestuur (bijv. thema’s, speciale uitgaven, zichtbaarheid)
• onderhoud je – waar passend – contacten met partners of netwerken in global health (NVTG etc.)
• signaleer je kansen om onderzoekers, met name uit lage- en middeninkomenslanden, beter te ondersteunen in het publicatieproces.
• help je bij het voorbereiden van besluiten (bijv. kleine projectvoorstellen, samenwerkingen, communicatie-uitingen)
• vertegenwoordig je, indien nodig, de stichting bij relevante bijeenkomsten of online events
De precieze invulling hangt af van je achtergrond, tijd en interesses; we kijken hier graag samen naar.
Wat bieden wij?
Dit is een onbezoldigde vrijwilligersfunctie. Wel is een kleine vergoeding voorzien voor deelname aan vergaderingen. Daarnaast biedt de functie:

• de mogelijkheid om je netwerk binnen global health uit te breiden
• de kans om bij te dragen aan een belangrijk platform voor onderzoek en kennisdeling
Over het tijdschrift
Tropical Medicine & International Health publiceert originele artikelen, reviews en opiniestukken over onder meer malaria, hiv, tuberculose, verwaarloosde tropische infecties, water en sanitatie, non-communicabele ziekten en public health. Het tijdschrift verwelkomt in het bijzonder bijdragen geleid door auteurs uit lage- en middeninkomenslanden en maakt editorials, gerandomiseerde trials en geselecteerde reviews 90 dagen gratis toegankelijk online.

The TMIH Foundation (Tropical Medicine and International Health) owns the peer-reviewed medical and scientific journal Tropical Medicine & International Health, published by Wiley. The Foundation aims to promote high-quality research and publications in infectious diseases, tropical medicine and global health. Through our editor, Leon Bijlmakers, the Foundation maintains close contact with the other editors and the publisher, Wiley.
We are looking for a new Secretary to join the Board.
Who are we looking for?
An enthusiastic and committed person who would like to contribute to tropical medicine, global health and/or infectious diseases. You do not need to be a doctor: we also welcome candidates from public health, research, NGOs, policy, communications or other relevant backgrounds.
We are looking for someone who:
• has an affinity with tropical medicine, global health and international healthcare
• is motivated to stimulate publications and knowledge sharing within the field
• can communicate orally and in writing in both Dutch and English
• preferably has organisational skills
• preferably has a network within global health, in the Netherlands and/or internationally
• works accurately and can manage Board communications well
Experience in LMIC settings (as an AIGT, medical specialist, public health professional or NGO staff member) and/or teaching experience is an advantage, but not a requirement.
What will you do?
As Secretary, you support the governance continuity of the TMIH Foundation and are responsible for minutes, communications and agenda coordination. You will work with a small, motivated and multidisciplinary Board.
The role includes:
• 2–3 Board meetings per year (usually online, in the evening; approx. 1.5 hours each)
• a total time commitment of approximately 1–2 hours per month (maximum)
• collaboration with the editor and contact with journal partners where needed
• contributing to the direction and strategy of the Foundation and the journal
• contributing to the Board agenda (e.g. themes, special issues, visibility)
• maintaining—where appropriate—contacts with partners or global health networks (e.g. NVTG)
• identifying opportunities to better support researchers, particularly from low- and middle-income countries, in the publication process
• helping to prepare decisions (e.g. small project proposals, collaborations, communications outputs)
• representing, if needed, the Foundation at relevant meetings or online events
The precise scope will depend on your background, time and interests; we are happy to shape this together.

This is an unpaid voluntary role. A small allowance is provided for attending meetings. In addition, the role offers:

About the journal
Tropical Medicine & International Health publishes original articles, reviews and opinion pieces on, among other topics, malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, neglected tropical infections, water and sanitation, non-communicable diseases and public health. The journal particularly welcomes submissions led by authors from low- and middle-income countries and makes editorials, randomised trials and selected reviews freely accessible online for 90 days.
