HIPRA dedicates 15 per cent of its annual turnover to R&D activities, which focus on the creation and application of the latest scientific advances to develop innovative vaccines of the highest quality. To add value to its expertise in vaccination, the company also develops medical devices and traceability services. We are looking for a Regional Medical Director to keep growing our Mediacl Affairs Team in Europe. The position will be remotly.

The mission of this role will be to ensure the adaptation, implementation, and continuous optimisation of the global medical strategy within their assigned region.

The role bridges global strategy and local execution, working in close partnership with the Regional Commercial Director (duo model) to ensure scientific excellence, public health relevance, and business alignment.

The RMD also acts as a strategic interface to Global Medical, providing structured regional insights that actively shape and refine global strategy.

The RMD will progressively build, select, and lead country medical organisations, ensuring strong local stakeholder engagement, evidence generation, and alignment with regional priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Regional Medical Strategy & Execution
  • Translate the global medical strategy into actionable regional plans, adapted to epidemiology, healthcare systems, and market dynamics.
  • Identify regional evidence gaps and opportunities, proposing regional strategies including de novo initiatives where needed.
  • Ensure scientific consistency with global positioning while tailoring messaging to local stakeholders.
  • Provide structured feedback to Global Medical to refine strategic assumptions and priorities based on regional insights.
  • Provide regional medical leadership in launch planning and execution.
  • Partnership with Regional Commercial Leadership
  • Operate in close collaboration (duo model) with the Regional Commercial Director to align on priorities, sequencing, and resource allocation.
  • Provide scientific input into commercial strategy, ensuring compliance, credibility, and differentiation.
  • Support regional tender strategies, stakeholder mapping, and vaccination policy positioning.
  • Evidence Generation & Medical Projects (Regional)
  • Define and lead regional evidence-generation initiatives (RWE, observational studies, registries).
  • Contribute to global studies by ensuring appropriate regional site inclusion and execution.
  • Identify and engage regional investigators, KOLs, and academic networks.
  • Ensure regional contribution to publications and scientific dissemination.
  • External Engagement & Scientific Leadership
  • Act as primary regional medical representative to KOLs, public health authorities, and scientific societies.
  • Build relationships with:
    • Regional advisory groups
    • NITAGs and immunisation bodies
    • Health ministries and public health stakeholders
  • Lead regional advisory boards and scientific exchange platforms.
  • Medical Affairs Operations & Launch Excellence
  • Ensure effective execution of medical plans across countries in the region.
  • Oversee the adaptation of global materials to regional/local needs, ensuring compliance and scientific accuracy.
  • Support training of commercial and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure alignment of medical activities with country-level reimbursement and policy frameworks.
  • Country Team Build & Leadership (Future State)
  • Lead the selection, hiring, and development of country medical teams as regional structures are established.
  • Define roles, governance, and ways of working across countries.
  • Provide coaching and performance management for country medical leads and MSL teams.
  • Ensure alignment between global, regional, and country medical priorities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Ensure regional insights are systematically captured and integrated into global strategy evolution and decision-making processes.

Qualifications

Education

MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent advanced degree in Life SciencesSpecialisation in vaccines, infectious diseases, immunology, or public health preferred

Experience

  • ≥8–10 years in Medical Affairs, experience in a commercial role is an advantage
  • Strong experience in vaccines or infectious diseases
  • Experience in multi-country / regional roles
  • Experience working with public health systems and vaccination policy stakeholders
  • Prior people leadership or strong matrix leadership experience is an advantage
