Fractional HR Manager
  • Company: Trove buildtrove.com
  • Location: Remote (US-based preferred for compliance purposes)
  • Job Type: Fractional / Contract (Hourly, On-Demand)
  • Compensation: $75.00 – $125.00 per hour (Based on experience)

About Trove

At Trove, we are a growing team dedicated to building great products. As we continue to scale, we want to ensure our foundational team operations are smooth, legally compliant, and welcoming for new hires. We are looking for a flexible, mid-level Fractional HR Manager to partner with our leadership team on an as-needed basis.

The Role

We don’t need a full-time HR department just yet, but we do need a trusted expert we can rely on. As our Fractional HR Manager, you will serve as our go-to resource for employee onboarding, maintaining compliance with labor laws, and managing day-to-day HR administration.

This is a flexible, hourly role. Hours will fluctuate based on our hiring volume and immediate HR needs—making this a perfect fit for an independent HR consultant or a professional managing a portfolio of fractional clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employee Onboarding & Offboarding: Lead the administrative onboarding process for new hires, ensuring all paperwork, system setups, and welcome communications are handled efficiently.
  • Compliance Management: Keep Buildtrove.com fully compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws. Monitor multi-state remote compliance and update us on necessary regulatory changes.
  • Policy & Handbook Maintenance: Review, update, and manage our employee handbook and internal HR policies to ensure they are current, clear, and legally sound.
  • Employee Records & Admin: Maintain accurate and confidential employee files, handle background checks, and assist with benefits enrollment questions if necessary.
  • Ad-Hoc HR Support: Act as a resource for employee relations issues, answer team member questions regarding HR policies, and provide guidance to leadership on best practices.

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience: 4 to 8 years of mid-level HR experience, ideally with previous experience acting as a generalist or HR manager for startups or small-to-mid-sized businesses.
  • Compliance Expertise: Strong working knowledge of US employment laws, particularly regarding remote, multi-state workforces.
  • Gusto Experience (A Plus): Prior experience navigating, managing, and optimizing onboarding, payroll, and benefits through the Gusto HRIS platform is highly preferred.
  • Self-Starter: You don’t need a lot of hand-holding. You can spot a gap in our HR processes, recommend a solution, and implement it.
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable navigating modern remote-work software, general HRIS platforms, and digital documentation tools.
  • Communication: Clear, empathetic, and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.

Engagement Details
  • Schedule: Highly flexible. You will track and bill for your hours based on active projects, hiring volume, and periodic compliance reviews.
  • Rate: $75 - $125/hour, depending on your level of experience and typical consulting rate.
