THE CLIENT
Our client is a tech-bio startup that develops cutting-edge AI methods in genome, protein and large language models to accelerate drug discovery and translational medicine. Due to their rapid growth they are looking to expand their team in Basel, Zurich and Lausanne.
YOUR ROLE:
We are looking for a Product Owner to drive the development of a web-based platform that integrates domain-specific Large Language Models (LLMs) to accelerate scientific discovery in immunology, biotechnology, and drug development. This platform will serve as a core interface between scientists and AI systems, enabling users to extract insights, generate hypotheses, and streamline R&D workflows through intelligent, context-aware tools.
As Product Owner, you will define and execute the product vision, working at the intersection of AI, software engineering, and scientific research. You will apply Design Thinking methodologies to deeply understand user needs, prototype solutions, and guide the development of intuitive, high-impact tools that empower scientific breakthroughs.
YOUR TASKS:

- Define and own the product roadmap for an AI-powered scientific platform, aligning with company goals and user needs.
- Translate scientific and technical requirements into clear, actionable product features.
- Prioritize features and enhancements based on user impact, feasibility, and strategic value.
User-Centered Product Design
- Apply Design Thinking principles to empathize with users, define problems, ideate solutions, prototype features, and test iteratively.
- Lead the design of intuitive interfaces tailored to scientific users (e.g. immunologists, protein engineers).
- Ensure that AI capabilities are presented in a transparent and interpretable way.
AI Integration & Technical Collaboration
- Work closely with ML and engineering teams to integrate LLMs and RAG pipelines into the product.
- Manage versioning and performance of AI components in collaboration with technical leads.
Agile Product Development
- Own and manage the product backlog, writing detailed user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Lead sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the primary liaison between scientific users, engineering teams, and business stakeholders.
- Communicate product vision, progress, and priorities clearly across technical and non-technical audiences.
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager in a tech-driven environment.
- Background in software engineering or technical product development.
- Experience working with AI/ML-powered applications, ideally involving LLMs or scientific domains.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, including LLMs, RAG, and model APIs.
- Familiarity with software development practices, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Databricks), and DevOps workflows.
- Experience applying Design Thinking to product development—empathizing with users, prototyping, and iterating based on feedback.
- Passion for building tools that empower scientific discovery and innovation
