Why Join Howden US?

At Howden, we’re not just building a business—we’re rewriting the rules of what a global insurance broker can be. From three people and a dog to over 22,000 employees across 56 countries, we’ve grown into a $4bn revenue business with bold ambition: to become a $13bn business with 40,000 people by 2030.

We’re launching our US retail platform with the same entrepreneurial spirit that’s driven our success worldwide- and we’re looking for trailblazers to help shape the future.

  • With 6,000 employee shareholders owning 34% of the company, our unique ownership model means you’re not just joining a team, you’re building a business you truly own.
  • You’ll Be Empowered
  • We’re a destination for talent where people are trusted to look after their clients and grow together. You’ll have the freedom to lead, backed by global scale and local expertise.
  • You’ll Be Part of Something Bigger
  • Our integrated platform spans broking, reinsurance, and MGA capabilities—giving you access to everything you need to deliver for clients and building something remarkable

We have always been employee-owned and driven by entrepreneurial spirit. Right from the beginning, we've focused on employing talented individuals and empowering them to make a real difference to the company, whilst building successful and fulfilling careers at the same time. Simply put, we hire talented specialists and give them what they need to make a difference for clients. Always have, always will.

What is the role?

As a Product Manager at Howden, you will partner closely with business stakeholders to identify problems worth solving, define desired outcomes, and translate needs into a clear product vision, roadmap, and prioritized backlog. You will work together with Engineering Project Managers and development teams to plan and execute delivery, providing delivery oversight to ensure work stays aligned to scope, timelines, quality standards, and business value.

You will evaluate existing capabilities and help design and deliver technical solutions that improve collaboration and efficiency across the client and colleague engagement value chain (including AI-driven products and enterprise technologies). You will lead requirements definition (epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria), facilitate trade-off decisions with stakeholders, and coordinate cross-functional dependencies. You will also manage vendor relationships, including partnerships with AI innovators—and ensure appropriate governance, risk, and compliance standards are met. The ideal candidate combines insurance domain knowledge with strong product management fundamentals and comfort working with data-driven solutions in a fast-paced environment.

What will you be doing?

Key Responsibilities

  • Product strategy & discovery: Partner with business leaders to define problems, outcomes, and success metrics; maintain the product vision and roadmap aligned to transformation objectives.
  • Backlog ownership: Create and maintain epics, features, and user stories with clear acceptance criteria; prioritize continuously based on value, risk, effort, and dependencies.
  • Delivery oversight (with Engineering PMs): Work with Engineering and Engineering Project Managers to plan releases and delivery timelines, manage scope and trade-offs, and ensure delivery meets quality and business expectations.
  • Business case support: Collaborate with business stakeholders to build business cases (problem statement, options, benefits, costs, risks, and expected ROI) and support funding and prioritization decisions; business stakeholders retain budget ownership and final approval.
  • Cross-functional stakeholder management: Facilitate alignment between business, IT, engineering, analytics, and operations; drive decision-making and remove blockers through clear communication and structured governance.
  • Solution evaluation & vendor management: Evaluate and select platforms and tools (including AI and data products) and manage third-party vendors/partners, including performance, delivery commitments, and commercial considerations.
  • Governance, risk & compliance: Ensure appropriate data protection, security, and compliance controls are incorporated into product design and delivery in partnership with legal, risk, privacy, and IT teams.
  • Measurement, adoption & continuous improvement: Use analytics and user feedback to measure product performance and drive improvements; partner with stakeholders on rollout and adoption plans.
  • Executive communication: Prepare concise updates and materials for senior leadership, including progress, risks, decisions needed, and outcomes.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of product management principles and Agile methodologies.
  • Ability to define product vision, roadmap, and prioritize features effectively.

  • Experience translating business requirements into functional specifications and user stories.
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and security best practices.
  • Collaborative leadership skills to align cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in product management in a complex, cross-functional environment.
  • Proven ability to partner with business stakeholders to define problems, requirements, and success measures, and translate them into a prioritized backlog.
  • Experience working with engineering teams and delivery leads/project managers to plan and execute delivery (including managing scope, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive-ready status updates and decision memos.
  • Experience writing epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria and supporting testing within an SDLC process.

  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and security practices in regulated environments.
  • Experience working with distributed teams and driving alignment across multiple business units.

What do we offer in return? A career that you define.

Our business succeeds by allowing our people to make a mark in the areas they care about most: personal development, volunteering, and fundraising for charity, or creating new insurance products that address society’s greatest challenges.

And we know that separate home and work lives don't really exist. If you're happy and healthy at home, you're more likely to be happy and fulfilled at work – and vice versa. That's why we do our best to support our people in every aspect of their lives.

Diversity and Inclusion

At Howden we value diversity - there is no one Howden ‘personality type’. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new
  • We support each other, in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges
  • We are determined to make a positive difference, at work and beyond

We consider our people our chief competitive advantage and as such we treat colleagues, candidates, clients, and business partners with equality, fairness, and respect – regardless of age, disability, race, religion or belief, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, or family circumstances.

Our sustainability promise

We’re on a life-long journey to become an ever-more sustainable group. It's a commitment to taking care of our people and the world we live in, to doing good business, and to making a positive impact wherever we can. Our governance processes, company policies, and review systems are all geared towards our goal of making a positive impact on the world. You can read more about our sustainability work here.
