Nerveli is seeking a thoughtful and detail-oriented Product Design Intern to support hands-on UX and UI design work for our chronic pain support platform.
This is a production-focused design role for a student who enjoys turning product requirements, user feedback, and existing design patterns into clear, cohesive experiences. The intern will work primarily in Figma to create and refine user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity screens, components, prototypes, and developer-ready design documentation.
The ideal candidate has strong visual judgment, thinks carefully about how people move through digital products, and is eager to build a portfolio through meaningful work on a real healthcare product.
Compensation and academic credit: This is an unpaid educational internship. Students may be eligible to receive academic credit through their college or university. Credit is not guaranteed and must be approved and arranged with the student’s academic institution before the internship begins. Nerveli will reasonably assist with required documentation and evaluations.
- Create and refine user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity screens, and interactive prototypes in Figma.
- Translate product requirements, feedback, and established UX direction into clear wireframes.
- Apply and help maintain Nerveli’s existing component library, design patterns, and visual standards.
- Build reusable components and styles that improve consistency and design efficiency– bonus points if you are familiar with variables!
- Prepare organized, developer-ready files with clear states, behaviors, annotations, and edge cases.
- Design across mobile and responsive web experiences as project needs evolve.
- Review implemented experiences against approved designs and document visual or interaction inconsistencies.
- Incorporate feedback and complete revisions on an agreed schedule.
- Support accessibility through readable hierarchy, contrast, touch-target sizing, and clear interaction patterns.
- Keep Figma pages, components, explorations, and final designs organized and easy for collaborators to navigate.
- Participate in product critiques and contribute ideas while working within established product strategy.
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program (or equivalent educational experience) in UX/UI design, interaction design, product design, communication design, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Figma through school, personal, volunteer, or professional projects.
- Ability to create, modify, and use reusable components and variants, including appropriate properties and states.
- Ability to use Auto Layout to create responsive, consistently spaced interface elements and screen layouts.
- Experience working within an existing UI kit or component library and applying established, complex components consistently.
- Working knowledge of Figma styles, including color, text, and effect styles, and how to apply them consistently across designs.
- A foundational understanding of user flows, wireframing, interface design, and prototyping.
- Strong visual judgment and attention to spacing, hierarchy, consistency, and detail.
- Able to receive feedback, revise work, and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable collaborating while also completing assigned design work independently.
- Interested in designing thoughtful, accessible experiences for people managing complex health needs.
- Experience using Figma variables, modes, or tokens within a design system.
- Experience contributing new patterns or components to an established design system.
- Familiarity with responsive design and developer handoff.
- Experience with usability testing, accessibility review, or design QA.
- Coursework or project experience involving mobile products, digital health, or behavior-change design.
- Basic familiarity with Jira or another project-management platform.
- Portfolio-ready UX and UI work on a real DTC digital health product.
- Experience moving from requirements and feedback to polished, implementation-ready designs.
- Practice working within a product strategy, design system, and cross-functional development process.
- Experience participating in design critique, iteration, handoff, and implementation review.
- Constructive feedback and mentorship from Nerveli’s Vice President of Product.
By the end of the internship, the Product Design Intern should be able to independently translate a defined product brief into organized, polished Figma designs, clearly communicate key states and interactions, and improve the work through critique and implementation feedback.
