About the Opportunity:
The Patient Access Intake Specialist is responsible for the initial review of patient cases and submission to insurance plans for prior authorization. This role works closely with team members and external customers (physicians and patients) to ensure clean and timely submissions. The position follows a remote work model with no relocation assistance or employment VISA sponsorship provided.
Responsibilities:
• Confirm case information is complete and supports medical necessity
• Obtain additional information from physicians or patients as needed
• Follow up timely on assigned tasks to ensure optimal case progression
• Communicate internally and externally to resolve case-related issues
• Submit prior authorization requests by phone or fax to payers
• Manage incoming faxes and correspondence, distributing to Case Managers promptly and accurately
• Prioritize tasks according to urgency
• Apply pressure on health plans that refuse to review based on negative or absent coverage policies
• Draft clear and concise case-related communication to physicians, patients, and payers
• Document all case activity and correspondence in a timely manner to provide chronological details of case progress
• Act as a resource for fellow team members and new employees
Requirements:
• 1-2 years of experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent training/apprenticeships
• Minimum 2 years of commercial insurance prior authorization experience
• Secure home office space able to protect HIPAA-sensitive materials
• Willingness to travel as needed (less than 5%)
• Demonstrated ability to navigate prior authorization processes with commercial and government payers
• Strong ability to read clinical records and extract pertinent information for submission
• Knowledge of payer medical policies and criteria requirements
• Ability to follow process and protocol and communicate when changes are needed
• Ability to work with multiple software systems
• Adaptability to evolving business needs
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience in pain management or spine specialty
Compensation:
• Minimum salary: $39,416
• Maximum salary: $66,976
• Compensation varies based on location, experience, education, licensure, and certifications
• Non-exempt roles may include variable compensation such as overtime, shift differential, and annual bonus targets (subject to eligibility)
• Exempt roles may include variable compensation such as annual bonus targets and long-term incentives (subject to eligibility)
