Position Overview

EnGen’s Education Team is seeking early-career Online English Language Teachers to deliver high-quality 1:1 virtual private classes for adult English learners. These classes focus on real-world communication skills, including speaking, listening, grammar, pronunciation, and workplace English.This is an ideal role for junior teachers, grad students, or experienced tutors who want to build their online teaching portfolio and work approximately 10 hours per week on a consistent schedule.

You will:

  • Teach 1:1 private lessons using EnGen’s materials and learner goals
  • Help learners build confidence and fluency for work, community, and everyday life
  • Provide clear, supportive feedback in real time
  • Collaborate with EnGen staff to share insights and continuously improve the learner experience


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate interactive, student-centered 1:1 online lessons
  • Adapt class content to learner needs, goals, and proficiency levels
  • Provide corrective feedback on grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary in real time
  • Support learners with practical language for work, community, and daily life situations
  • Maintain accurate basic records of attendance and session notes as requested
  • Communicate promptly and professionally with EnGen staff regarding scheduling and learners


Knowledge & Skills

  • A strong passion for EnGen’s mission to help immigrants and refugees remove English as a barrier to career advancement, economic mobility, and better quality of life
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Action-oriented: works with a sense of urgency
  • Proactive nature: takes action without strict guidance


Minimum Requirements

  • Fluency in English
  • Some prior experience teaching, tutoring, or coaching (online or in-person), especially with adults or English learners
  • Strong passion for helping immigrants and refugees remove English as a barrier to career advancement, economic mobility, and quality of life
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and strong communication skills
  • Comfortable using Zoom (or other video platforms) and basic digital tools


Preferred (but not required):

  • ESL/EFL certification, certificate in TESOL, or relevant coursework
  • Experience teaching English to adults
  • Experience with workplace English, career readiness, or skills training


Other Details About The Role

  • Contractor position
  • Expected workload: Approximately 7–10 hours per week of teaching to start, with potential to grow
  • Teaching schedule is variable; may include regular business hours, evenings, and/or weekends – you will help shape your schedule within learner demand
  • All classes are delivered virtually
