About The Role

We are currently looking for a Nutrition Specialist to join the team at the Dekalb Department of Public Health. This role involves assessing individual nutritional needs, providing counseling, and ensuring compliance with federal and state nutrition regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dietetics or human nutrition, with experience in public health settings. The position offers flexibility in scheduling, with options for full-time or part-time work, making it suitable for professionals seeking adaptable work hours. The role is pivotal in supporting community health initiatives, particularly within the WIC Supplemental Food and Nutrition Program, by evaluating patient data, determining eligibility, and offering tailored nutritional guidance. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics, human nutrition, foods and nutrition, nutrition education, food systems management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a nutrition-related role or public health setting.
  • Knowledge of federal and state nutrition regulations and programs.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing laboratory values, growth patterns, and medical histories.
  • Excellent communication and counseling skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Locals are preferred for this role, as the position is based in Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • Assess a minimum of 20 individual certification and benefit issuances daily by evaluating laboratory values, growth patterns, dietary, medical histories, and socioeconomic status of patients in health department services.
  • Study and apply federal and state regulations to determine eligibility and provide required nutrition services for participants in the WIC Supplemental Food and Nutrition Program.
  • Counsel patients regarding nutritional requirements appropriate to their physiological needs.
  • Provide referrals to other health department services and external agencies as indicated by the assessment process.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of assessments, counseling sessions, and service delivery.
  • Stay updated on current nutrition guidelines, federal and state policies, and best practices in community health nutrition.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and community outreach activities to promote health education and nutrition awareness.
