About The Role
The Samsara AI team develops comprehensive end-to-end AI solutions that serve our diverse customer base, alongside building core machine learning (ML) infrastructure for the company. As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you will work with petabyte-scale datasets, including sensor data, diagnostics, video, and text, to address critical challenges faced by our Physical Operations clients worldwide. Your role involves close collaboration with ML Engineers, Scientists, full-stack developers, and firmware engineers to deliver key product features, services, and system optimizations. This remote position is open to candidates residing within the United States and may require up to 5% travel. Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this role.

Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer
- Proficiency in optimizing ML models for edge computing constraints
- Experience with frameworks such as Spark, Ray, or similar
- Strong coding skills in Python or equivalent languages
- Proficiency in C++ or Rust
- Deep understanding of the iterative machine learning product development process
- Experience developing and deploying production-grade code at large scale
- Ability to translate ambiguous customer and business requirements into clear problem definitions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience mentoring and coaching ML engineers
- Lead the design and implementation of critical AI product initiatives on edge devices
- Develop both tactical AI solutions and strategic research projects for long-term impact
- Work with petabyte-scale data, including text, diagnostics, sensor, video, and location data, to develop innovative AI models
- Collaborate across business units to prototype new AI experiences and optimize model performance on edge hardware
- Stay current with industry and academic research, adopting new technologies that align with Samsara’s objectives

- Competitive salary range of $165,200 to $295,000 USD annually, commensurate with experience and location
