Human Factors Engineer – Nuclear / Safety-Critical Engineering
Principal, Lead and Mid-Level Profiles
Location: Multiple European locations | Hybrid working | Details shared at conversation stage
The opportunity
Across Europe, there is real momentum behind nuclear new build, SMR development and plant life extension. Programmes that have spent years in research and concept development are now moving into detailed design, licensing and delivery — and Human Factors engineering is becoming central to how these projects succeed.
We are actively looking to speak with experienced Human Factors engineers who are considering their next move.
What the work involves
You would typically be embedded within multidisciplinary engineering teams, working at the interface between design, operations and safety. Responsibilities vary by programme but commonly include:
∙ Human Factors integration across system and plant design
∙ Task analysis and operational sequence analysis
∙ Control room and HMI design input
∙ Human reliability and human error analysis
∙ Development of HF design requirements and guidelines
∙ Safety case documentation and regulatory submissions
∙ Interface with operations, engineering and licensing teams
What we are looking for
∙ Human Factors engineering experience in nuclear or another safety-critical industry — oil & gas, aerospace, rail, defence or process industries
∙ Familiarity with relevant standards and regulatory frameworks
∙ Experience contributing to safety cases, licensing documentation or design reviews
∙ Comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams and with regulators
We are open to a range of experience levels. Principal and Lead profiles are the primary focus, but we are also interested in speaking with strong mid-level engineers who are developing in this direction.
Salary
Principal and Lead roles are expected to be in the £90,000–£110,000 range. Packages for mid-level profiles will reflect experience. Full details at conversation stage.
