Head of Engineering | Remote (EU) | €140k - €200k + Equity
Maze has partnered with a high-growth, well-funded Series C technology scaleup to hire senior engineering leaders to own newly formed product domains and accelerate the organisation through an exciting phase of transformation and expansion. Titles are flexible (Senior EM / Head of Engineering / Director / VP).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and scale a cross-functional engineering domain, often growing teams from 0–1 squads to multi-squad organisations.
- Hire, mentor, and develop engineering leaders and ICs; act as a strong “talent magnet.”
- Provide architectural and system design leadership (not hands-on coding).
- Define engineering excellence, delivery processes, and scalable technical standards.
- Partner with Product to translate customer and business needs into clear engineering direction.
- Drive organisational change across culture, ways of working, performance processes, and international collaboration.
- Lead distributed, multicultural teams in a remote-first environment.
Key Requirements
- Experience leading engineering teams in scale-up environments and building teams from scratch.
- Strong product and commercial mindset with a track record of shipping customer-impactful products.
- Proven leadership through change - cultural, structural, and process-driven.
- Deep architectural/system design competence and ability to guide technical decisions.
- Experience managing managers and cross-functional engineering groups.
- Comfortable leading internationally distributed teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience in complex or regulated product domains (e.g., payments, financial systems).
- Exposure to both B2C and B2B product environments.
