Organization Overview:

Compudopt is a national non-profit organization that aims to provide technology access and education to under-resourced youth and their communities. Compudopt is seeking a Government Affairs Manager to help lead and coordinate Compudopt’s government affairs team. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Government Affairs.

This full-time Government Affairs Manager position is responsible for pursuing federal and state opportunities for digital efforts: connectivity, computing devices, digital literacy, digital navigators. We are looking for someone who wants to be at the cutting edge of policy work to end the digital divide in the United States. Responsibilities include but are not limited to analyzing legislation and policy trends, creating relationships with state and federal policymakers and agencies, drafting reports and fact sheets; and assisting the advocacy work of Compudopt in the realm of digital opportunity. This role is a remote position that can be based anywhere in the continental US. This position may also require 25% travel (including nights and weekends) to represent Compudopt.

Major Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders, policymakers, coalition groups, federal and state agency personnel, and other digital opportunity practitioners.
  • Track and analyze legislation, policy trends, funding opportunities and personnel developments.
  • Represent Compudopt in calls, webinars, conferences, and meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Maintain internal database of key relationships, personnel and coalition groups around the country working on digital opportunity.
  • Conduct research and opportunity assessments for ensuring Compudopt is a part of any/all relevant digital policy matters.
  • Assists senior management and leadership with strategic planning for known and potential regulatory activities related to our digital opportunity efforts.
  • Stay current on existing and proposed legislation.
  • Introduce legislative and public policy changes that will support Compudopt’s strategic priorities.
  • Communicates and advocates Compudopt priorities to local, regional, state, and national elected officials and staff, and relevant state and federal agency staff.
  • Prepare advocacy materials including talking points, partnership decks, one pagers, and policy briefings for a variety of audiences.
  • Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of Compudopt business and strategic priorities to effectively identify new advocacy and funding opportunities and partnerships.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, political science, public relations, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years progressively responsible and professional experience in government relations.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of governmental organization and administration, intergovernmental relations, grant administration, and the legislative process.


Preferred:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college our university in business administration, political science, public relations, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years progressively responsible and professional experience in government relations.
  • Minimum of one year in experience in Broadband Policy
  • Minimum of one year experience in legislative or working with a government agency


Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capitol Hill or other legislative advocacy experience
  • Effective research, writing, analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace and project management and legislative tracking software
  • Detail oriented and able to keep track of multiple developments across a broad spectrum of federal and state entities.
  • Ability to set priorities, work independently, and produce materials consistently,


efficiently, and timely

  • Political experience with good judgment and discretion, including an understanding of advocacy strategies, federal legislative and funding procedures, and effective representation of the organization
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Compudopt staff and senior leadership
  • Commitment to Compudopt’s mission and the ability to understand issues impacting digital divide
  • Solid professional and ethical judgment

Salary is one component of Compudopt’s total compensation package, which also includes:

  • Employer paid medical contributions up to $7015.20 annually.
