About the job

We are seeking an experienced, revenue-driven Freelance Business Development Consultant (EU-based, remote) to support Jarlen Capital’s commercialization engagements across Medical Devices | Biomaterials | In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD). You will be responsible for client acquisition and revenue growth by building pipeline, winning new opportunities, and executing direct sales, OEM/white-label partnerships, and distribution/channel deals for international expansion across EU, USA, and APAC. This role is focused on new business generation, strategic account development, and deal execution, with a practical understanding of how regulatory realities impact commercial outcomes.

Key segments

We are particularly interested in consultants with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Medical Devices
  • In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD)
  • Biomaterials

Key responsibilities

  • Identify, target, and secure new revenue opportunities across EU/USA/APAC through direct sales, OEM/private label, and distribution partnerships.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with senior decision-makers (commercial, procurement, GM, and partner leadership).
  • Own the full BD lifecycle: lead generation → discovery → qualification → pitching/proposal → negotiation → close → account expansion/handoff.
  • Develop and execute international market-entry and partner acquisition strategies aligned with project goals (including channel design and partner selection criteria).
  • Drive and report against clear commercial KPIs: pipeline health, conversion rates, forecast accuracy, and closed-won outcomes.
  • Create core commercial assets: target lists, account plans, partner profiles, outreach sequences, pitch decks, and commercial narratives.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with regulatory, quality, product, and clinical stakeholders to ensure proposed pathways, claims, and commercial commitments are feasible and compliant.
  • Represent engagements in partner meetings, industry events, and commercial discussions; occasional EU travel preferred.

Requirements

  • Must be EU-resident and able to work effectively with stakeholders across EU / USA / APAC.
  • Proven experience in BD / partnerships / commercial execution in Medical Devices and/or Biomaterials and/or IVD.
  • Demonstrated track record of winning new business via direct sales and/or OEM deals and/or distributor/channel partnerships.
  • Strong commercial fundamentals (segmentation, positioning, channel strategy, procurement dynamics, pricing logic) and the ability to factor in regulatory constraints without slowing execution.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills; confident with executive-level discussions.
  • Self-directed, highly accountable, and comfortable working in a remote, project-based model.

Preferred

  • Experience in consulting, venture/portfolio support, or fractional commercial leadership.
  • Existing network across EU medtech procurement, diagnostics labs, OEM/manufacturing partners, and/or APAC distribution.
  • Additional languages (e.g., German, French, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean).
  • MBA or advanced degree; technical/scientific degree is a plus.

What we offer

  • Fully remote model with autonomy and flexible working hours (project-based SoWs or part-time retainer).
  • Exposure to varied international commercialization cases across EU, USA, and APAC.
  • Clear scopes, fast-moving decision cycles, and the opportunity to become a go-to freelance partner for repeat engagements.

Engagement details

  • Start: ASAP
  • Time commitment: 0.5 FTE depending on the case
