is looking for an experienced leader to join our team as ourFractional CFO.

This is a part-time (15-20 hours per week), remote position based in the Pacific Time Zone.

About The Position

We are seeking a seasoned Fractional CFOto ensurethe financial integrity, accuracy, and compliance of two distinct but growing business entities—one in sustainable agriculture and the other in the highly regulated cannabis industry.

This role is ideal for a forward-thinking executive who excels at steering organizations through complex regulatory landscapes, optimizing multi-entity operations, and delivering financial clarity for informed, agile decision-making. You will partner closely with the CEO and internal teams to set strategic priorities, establish operational best practices, and guide both entities through their next phase of growth.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight & Management

  • Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and month-end close for both the alfalfa and cannabis entities
  • Ensure the timely preparation and consolidation of financial statements and customized reporting for both entities
  • Lead financial planning and analysis, including capital investment analysis, pricing strategy, contract review, and Net Present Value (NPV) modeling, as required
  • Monitor and improve financial systems and internal controls, ensuring compliance with GAAP and cannabis industry-specific regulations
  • Manages preparation and on time presentation of information for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, audits, and reviews
  • Consolidate financial reporting for both entities and identify key metrics to improve financial performance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (GAAP) and industry-specific regulations, particularly within the cannabis space
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls

Management Accounting & Analysis

  • Prepare standard operational management reports tailored to the needs of the department leads
  • Prepare customized reports/analyses required for stakeholders to make informed decisions as required
  • Provide financial forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making
  • Provides financial analyses as needed for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Budgeting
  • With the support of the CEO, prepare and regularly update forecasts and budgets

Compliance, Audit & Risk

  • Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and serve as the primary liaison for tax filings, audits, and inspections
  • Maintain audit readiness and proactively mitigate financial and operational risk
  • Oversee insurance renewals and liability coverage for both organizations

Payroll

  • Oversee payroll processing across both companies, ensuring compliance with multi-state tax regulations
  • Oversee payroll tax filings and related compliance
  • Technology & Process Improvement
  • Evaluate and optimize systems (QuickBooks, payroll platforms, reporting tools) to improve accuracy, transparency, and efficiency
  • Recommend and implement process improvements and controls for greater efficiency, fraud protection, and accuracy
  • Drive continuous improvement through streamlined workflows and automated reporting processes

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred
  • 8+ years of executive leadership experience, including financial oversight and strategic planning
  • Proven experience managing balance sheets, P&L, and cashflow statements and leading accounting or finance teams in production-based businesses
  • Deep understanding of GAAP, COGS, and the construction of all three financial statements
  • Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel, and financial modeling, including NPV analysis
  • Experience with multi-state payroll compliance required
  • Experience working in a production environment is required. Cannabis/agriculture industry exposure is a plus

Location & Hours:

  • This position works remotely 15-20hours per week
  • Typical business hours are Monday-Friday, 8-5Pacific Time
