Anika Systems is looking for dynamic, well-rounded interns to join our growing team! We are a fast-growing, woman-owned small business providing innovative IT solutions for federal government agencies. This opportunity will be 100% remote and is a paid internship.


The Data Scientist Intern will work with the Data Platform team to research and develop cloud-based data management solutions for Anika Systems. You will utilize a variety of technologies to provide a scalable, reliable foundation for organizations to store, process, and analyze large volumes of data.


In this role, you will:


  • Learn to design and build data pipelines for common business use cases
  • Develop and maintain data processing workflows
  • Design and develop data visualizations
  • Learn and apply machine learning techniques to data analysis
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
  • Research and implement best practices for data governance and security
  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing activities to ensure that the team's work is well documented and accessible to others
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile development processes


Minimum requirements for the role:


Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a government suitability clearance


  • Current student pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in engineering, computer science or related field (3.0+ GPA)
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala
  • Familiarity with query languages such as SQL or KQL
  • Understanding of data structures and algorithms
  • Interest in data engineering and data analysis
  • Strong technical aptitude and desire for continuous learning
  • Effective time management skills and strong attention to detail


An ideal candidate also has:


  • Hands-on expertise with SQL for use in data access, discovery and analysis
  • Experience with data modeling and data architecture
  • Ability to design and implement scalable, efficient data pipelines and workflows
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts and tools
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience with Databricks, H20, Power BI, Tableau
