About the Role
The Editor, Custom Content, is responsible for the planning, oversight, and execution of selected sponsored content initiatives — both print and digital—primarily within the optometry and ophthalmology fields.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Custom Content, the editor drives content and projects (sponsored articles, supplements, e-newsletters, and more) from conception through deployment and promotion, ensuring projects align with organizational objectives, client expectations, regulatory requirements, and editorial standards. This role works across teams (clients, authors, digital delivery, and creative services, and editorial) to deliver custom projects on deadline, and to the satisfaction of all contracted deliverables and client expectations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate content creation and production, including developing and managing production schedules and timelines
- Review and edit content, ensuring it meets editorial and in-house style standards
- Manage authors (freelance writers and KOL authors)
- Track project progress through Asana, spreadsheets, etc.
- Traffic projects through client medical/legal review when necessary
- Provide writing support for projects when appropriate
- Develop an understanding of the subject matter well enough to catch inconsistencies or question unclear material, and to communicate confidently with clients and doctors on subject matter
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in English, Communications, Journalism, or similar.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (including InDesign), Adobe suite. Experience in Asana workflow platform a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong editorial background (healthcare or ophthalmology background a plus).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on medical trade journals or platforms — vision-related a plus.
Pay range
$70,000 - $80,000
