We are a leading technical services provider, delivering high-quality solutions across the built environment. With a strong track record in innovation and a team of over 5,000 colleagues across 32 locations nationwide, we work every day to accelerate three major transitions: the energy, digital and industrial transition. We are now looking for a driven Cost Engineer with a specialisation in HVAC and mechanical building installations.
What you will do
As a Cost Engineer, you are responsible for producing detailed and accurate cost estimates and tenders for the replacement and renovation of building-bound mechanical installations (primarily HVAC systems) in utility construction. Your work is based on multi-year maintenance plans for a diverse portfolio of clients, including hospitals, universities, office buildings and data centres.
You will work closely with project managers, contract managers, and installation technicians internally, as well as with subcontractors externally, to analyse and control project costs from the earliest tender phase through to execution.
The core of this role is precise, detailed cost calculation. You factor in all relevant variables: which materials and components are required, which subcontractors are involved, how many labour hours are needed, and what lessons can be drawn from previous projects. You also contribute to pre-engineering activities during the tender phase, helping shape technically and financially sound proposals.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Analysing technical specifications, drawings, P&IDs and other relevant documentation to fully understand the project scope, with a specific focus on HVAC systems, climate control installations, piping, ventilation and other building-bound mechanical systems.
- Preparing detailed cost estimates and tenders based on technical information and project requirements, applying up-to-date knowledge of material prices, labour rates and industry norms specific to utility construction.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external subcontractors to identify and implement cost-effective solutions, without compromising on quality, safety or compliance.
- Identifying and evaluating potential risks in cost estimates and developing strategies to manage and mitigate these.
- Supporting project managers and other team members in key financial and technical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
What we offer
Salary between €4,855 and €6,175 gross per month based on 40 hours per week, holiday allowance of 8%, profit-sharing scheme up to 10%, 38 days off per year (full-time), phone and laptop, flexible working hours, option to work from home with a fully equipped home office, strong pension scheme, and extensive opportunities for training and career development.
What you bring
- A completed technical bachelor's degree (HBO) or advanced vocational qualification (MBO4) in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, HVAC, or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrable experience as a work planner, calculator or cost engineer within a technical environment, specifically in utility construction such as hospitals, universities, office buildings or data centres.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and building-bound mechanical installations, including heating, cooling, ventilation, piping and climate control.
- Proven ability to independently produce budgets and detailed cost calculations, with solid knowledge of applicable rates, norms and standards in the construction and installation industry.
- A willingness to continue developing professionally through relevant training and education.
- A precise, structured working method and the ability to draw on lessons learned from previous projects to sharpen future estimates.
