This is a unique opportunity for a skilled ghostwriter to collaborate on the autobiography of a key Taiwanese American leader whose life has spanned continents and shaped democratic movements. The subject’s journey—from his upbringing in Taiwan, academic pursuits in New York City, to his pivotal role in the Taiwan democratic movement and the founding of the Democratic Progressive Party—offers a compelling narrative of resilience, sacrifice, and advocacy for justice. The project will require close collaboration with the family to capture personal stories, historical context, and the subject’s impact on both Taiwanese and American society. The ideal candidate will be able to sensitively convey complex political and cultural themes, ensuring the story resonates with a broad audience. The work is fully remote, with a target delivery date of September 2026.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth interviews with the subject’s family and associates to gather personal anecdotes and historical details
• Research and contextualize the political and social landscape of Taiwan and the United States during key periods of the subject’s life
• Develop a compelling narrative structure that weaves together personal, political, and cultural elements
• Write, revise, and edit manuscript drafts in close collaboration with the client, ensuring accuracy and authenticity
• Maintain clear communication and meet project milestones leading up to the final manuscript delivery
  
  

Skills And Requirements

• Proven experience ghostwriting or authoring autobiographies, memoirs, or historical nonfiction
• Exceptional storytelling, research, and interviewing skills
• Ability to write with sensitivity to cultural and political nuance
• Proficiency in English; fluency in Taiwanese or Mandarin is highly preferred
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a long-term project with multiple stakeholders
• Familiarity with East Asian history, Taiwanese politics, or diaspora narratives is a plus
• Availability for regular virtual meetings and timely delivery of drafts
