Copy Editor
Job Description
The Copy Editor will assist in refining original content that communicates in a memorable and compelling way for various audiences. Primary duties include proofreading and assisting in content strategy, content creation, and copywriting for all types of media. While editing is the main focus of this role, writing and proofreading are vital to improving the substance and quality of deliverables.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- The Copy Editor position does not supervise other employees.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Edit and proofread for a variety of media, including print, digital, out-of-home, video, radio, and social media, checking work for accuracy in grammar, usage, and syntax.
- Conduct background research as necessary to inform content development.
- Compare created content to client brand, positioning, and key messages to ensure messaging and communication concepts that meet strategic goals.
- Participate in internal project briefings.
- Attend client meetings and briefings as needed.
- Present edits and feedback of content to teammates, explaining rationale as needed.
- Collaborate with the creative director, the creative team, and project managers to produce copy/content aligned with creative specifications.
- Support the Creative or Copywriting team as needed or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Able to edit copy that persuades, influences, and motivates audiences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficient understanding of proofing, grammar, and usage. AP Style knowledge is required.
- Organization and time-management skills to effectively multitask on numerous assignments simultaneously, often with tight deadlines.
- Experience presenting concepts and campaigns to clients.
- Research and data analysis skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of the following is a plus:
- Adobe suite of applications (Acrobat, InDesign, InCopy)
- G Suite
- Figma
- Grammarly
- AI (ChatGPT)
Education & Experience
- Degree in English, Advertising, Marketing, Journalism, Creative Writing, Communication, or related field is required.
- SEO experience/knowledge of SEO best practices.
- Ad agency or related work experience preferred.
- 5+ years of related work experience preferred.
