About The Role

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Mspark, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements at all levels, and the implementation of effective financial controls. This role involves managing the accounting team and providing strategic financial insights to support business decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee all accounting operations and support the accounting team with dynamic leadership that fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Establish (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on quarterly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to local and national legal standards while remaining knowledgeable of proposed legislation.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Serve as an analytical resource and trusted advisor to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by leadership.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong technical skills with Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and financial management and tax software.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage and lead the accounting team.
  • Extensive experience in partnering with executive teams to deliver financial insights, facilitate strategic decision-making, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws, and best practices.
  • Expertise in preparing and analyzing financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, etc.
  • Ability to create and manage budgets and financial forecasts to guide the organization's financial strategy.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations, ensuring compliance to optimize tax liabilities and avoid penalties.
  • Proficient in analyzing financial data to uncover trends, assess risks, identify opportunities, and deliver actionable recommendations.
  • Skilled in strategic financial planning to support business growth and profitability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years’ professional experience in finance or accounting, with a minimum of 5 years in a management/leadership role.
