Chief Operating Officer - Marina Operations

Our client is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to lead day to day management, interdepartmental communication and coordination and organizational development efforts during a phase of rapid program and business growth. The COO, who will report to organizational ownership, will lead senior managers to shape and manage the success of this growing organization. This is a newer role for the organization, with the expressed purpose of increasing organizational functionality and cohesion to allow ownership to focus more on growth and crafting strategic initiatives.


In addition to overall organizational functionality, the COO will have direct oversight of ongoing and established operations, specifically:

  • Retail Operations
  • Facility Rentals and Maintenance
  • Maritime Educational / Safety Programming
  • Planning and Execution of Special Events
  • Development and Construction Expansion Projects


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of operational strategies for marina management, including budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure peak operational efficiency.
  • Oversee daily operations of the marinas, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and organizational policies while maintaining high standards of service delivery.
  • Execution, optimizing programs, and tuning up the organization as we shape ourselves through significant growth.
  • Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, including customers, vendors, and local authorities, to enhance marina visibility and community engagement.
  • Implement best practices in marina management, focusing on sustainability initiatives and innovative service offerings to increase customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Analyze operational data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and drive efficiency gains across the marina.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing marina operations team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with marketing and sales teams to develop promotional strategies, enhancing the marina's market presence and driving revenue growth.
  • Oversee, direct, and organize the work of retail, program, facility, and special event teams.
  • Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development.
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.
  • Work with ownership and senior staff to plan, coordinate to execute the annual planning and budgeting process.




Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of executive-level management experience in a marina, resort, or hospitality environment
  • 5+ years of experience in an executive-level management role ideally within high-growth organizations
  • Undergraduate degree, master’s in relevant field will be looked on favorably
  • Strong understanding of marina operations, member services, and event planning
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a diverse membership
  • Experience in financial management, including budgeting and P&L oversight
  • Familiarity with local boating regulations and environmental practices
  • Certifications related to marina management or hospitality
