Position Overview
SourceCo is a technology-driven buy-side investment banking firm focused on originating off-market acquisition opportunities for private equity firms, family offices, and strategic acquirers. SourceCo partners with investors to translate highly specific investment theses into actionable, proprietary deal flow across a range of industries.
We are seeking an Associate to join our Origination & Buy-Side M&A team, with a primary mandate of sourcing, qualifying, and advancing acquisition opportunities for private equity investors. This role sits at the intersection of research, outbound origination, owner engagement, and deal execution.
This is a high-exposure role. Associates work directly with PE deal teams and business owners and are responsible for moving opportunities from first touch through qualified transaction discussions. Prior deal sourcing experience is required.
This role involves high-volume outbound calling and direct founder engagement. Applicants without comfort in owner-facing, phone-driven roles should not apply.
Core Responsibilities
Private Equity Origination
- Deeply understand client investment theses (industry, size, geography, structure) and translate them into targeted origination strategies
- Source proprietary, off-market acquisition opportunities aligned with PE buyer criteria
- Cold call and directly engage business owners to assess interest, fit, and transaction readiness
Owner Engagement & Qualification
- Lead first calls with business owners exploring a sale or partnership
- Qualify opportunities based on financials, operations, ownership goals, and buyer fit
- Guide owners through early-stage transaction conversations and next steps
Outreach & Deal Development
- Execute and optimize multi-channel outbound campaigns (calls, email, follow-ups)
- Write, test, and refine outreach messaging for different investor theses and industries
- Maintain consistent follow-up cadence to advance conversations toward live deal opportunities
Deal Support & Internal Execution
- Maintain accurate CRM records on targets, calls, and opportunity status
- Create internal deal summaries, market updates, and client-facing reports
- Coordinate with research, operations, and senior M&A team members to advance opportunities
- Support the creation of deal marketing materials and buyer-ready summaries
Research & Strategy
- Conduct and oversee industry and company-level research
- Direct research efforts based on evolving client requirements and market feedback
Qualifications
- Strong academic background
- Demonstrated interest in private equity, M&A, or investing
- Background in sales, finance, consulting, banking, or business development preferred
- Comfortable with high-volume outbound calling and direct owner engagement
- Strong analytical, research, and synthesis skills
- Basic understanding of financial statements and business performance
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable speaking with senior business owners and PE professionals
- High ownership mentality, strong work ethic, and attention to detail
- Ability to operate independently while collaborating across teams
Compensation
- Base Salary: $90,000 – $110,000
- Performance Bonus: Meaningful, uncapped bonus tied directly to origination and deal outcomes
Target All-In Compensation: $150,000 – $250,000+
Compensation is structured to reward high-quality opportunity origination, consistency, and long-term contribution. Top performers materially outperform target earnings.
