Job Overview

Fortune is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Business Development Director to join our Geneva team. In this key role, you’ll join a team responsible for identifying new business opportunities and delivering against quarterly and annual sales targets.

This role requires close collaboration with colleagues across the UK, Europe, Asia, and the U.S., especially our sales and marketing teams, to craft competitive proposals and strategic client solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Execution & Pipeline Management

  • Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of high-value prospects, ensuring continuous deal flow.
  • Execute a structured outreach strategy through cold calls, warm introductions, and strategic networking.
  • Drive conversion rates by proactively following up on client interactions and advancing deals through the sales funnel.
  • Deliver accurate weekly sales forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities to maximize revenue.
  • Close large, multi-platform, and strategic deals that contribute to company growth.
  • Maintain an organised CRM system (Salesforce), tracking all interactions, follow-ups, and deal progress with precision.


Client Impact & Retention

  • Build and nurture deep relationships with key decision-makers to establish trust and drive long-term partnerships.
  • Maintain high client renewal and upsell rates by proactively identifying and addressing evolving client needs.
  • Partner with agencies and direct clients to develop tailored advertising and sponsorship solutions that deliver measurable business impact.


Product Fluency & Storytelling

  • Clearly articulate the value of our media solutions including digital, custom content, events and print, and positioning them as must-have investments for clients.
  • Utilise audience insights, performance metrics, and market data to craft compelling, persuasive sales narratives.
  • Collaborate with the local and US-based marketing team to develop customised proposals that align with clients' strategic objectives.


Market Insight & Strategic Thinking

  • Stay ahead of industry trends, shifts in advertiser behaviour, and category developments to advise clients effectively.
  • Bring competitive intelligence to sales discussions, positioning our offerings as superior solutions in the marketplace.
  • Transform market challenges into commercial opportunities by developing innovative solutions that address client needs.
  • Share insights from client interactions to inform product development and market positioning.


Team Leadership & Influence

  • Lead key team projects that contribute to commercial growth, operational effectiveness, or strategic priorities in this region, as defined by Commercial Director
  • Mentor junior team members, sharing expertise to enhance team performance and drive collective success.
  • Work cross-functionally with editorial, product, and marketing teams to align sales efforts with business priorities.
  • Serve as a trusted voice internally and externally, strengthening our brand presence and credibility in the market.


Your Experience & Attributes

  • A proven track record of exceeding sales targets in the media sector.
  • At least 7 years of experience in media sales, with expertise in custom content, event sponsorships, digital media and print.
  • Exceptional communication skills with a professional, positive attitude.
  • Ability to navigate complex organisational structures and drive strategic sales initiatives.
  • Analytical mindset with a results-driven approach to business development.
