Job Description
As we scale our impact and navigate a complex funding and technological landscape, we seek to strengthen our Board with new Non-Executive Directors (NEDs).
This is a voluntary, pro bono role offering a unique opportunity to provide strategic governance and leverage your professional expertise for profound social good through education. You will help steer the organisation towards sustainable growth and greater impact.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide independent, strategic oversight and governance in line with non-profit company (NPC) regulations and King IV/V principles.
- Analyse organisational performance, ensure robust financial controls, and manage risk. Offer expert guidance in your specialised field to the executive team and board committees.
- Support and challenge the organisation’s strategic direction, business plans, and key performance indicators.
- Act as an ambassador for SchoolNet, leveraging networks and advocating for our education through technology mission.
- Prepare for, attend, and actively contribute to quarterly board meetings (between 2-4 per year) and/or assigned committee meetings.
Minimum qualifications:
- Proven experience serving on a board or senior committee (corporate, NGO, or public sector).
- Significant executive or senior consultancy experience in at least one of the priority sectors listed above.
- A passion for education, digital inclusion, and social transformation.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and communication skills.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and the ability to exercise independent judgement.
- Prior non-profit or social enterprise experience is advantageous but not essential.
- Finance & Governance: Chartered Accountants, finance directors, or audit experts to shape and ensure robust financial stewardship.
- Human Resources & Remuneration: HR executives or organisational development specialists to guide our people strategy, talent development, and remuneration policy.
- Information Technology & Digital Strategy: Tech leaders, CIOs, EdTech or digital transformation experts to provide insights on trends, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure.
- Fundraising & Business Development: Professionals with a proven track record in donor relations, corporate partnerships, social enterprise, or grant funding.
- Marketing & Communications: Strategic communicators, brand experts, or digital marketers to help amplify our story, engage stakeholders, and strengthen our public presence.
