Position: Assistant Project Manager – Solar & Battery Storage

Location: Project-based (travel depending on project site)
Overview
A leading U.S.-based renewable energy developer is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the execution of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The company develops, owns, and operates clean energy assets across North America and is backed by a highly experienced leadership team. Key Responsibilities
- Support project execution from design through construction and turnover to operations
- Assist in managing EPC scopes including budgeting, procurement, scheduling, change management, and construction oversight
- Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure compliance with project timelines, contracts, and reporting requirements
- Prepare and maintain project documentation and support field engineering and document control
- Work alongside site-based construction managers to ensure seamless execution
- Participate in procurement processes: bid package prep, proposal evaluation, contract negotiation
- Collaborate with development and legal teams on permitting, interconnection, and contract execution
- Support project handover to asset management upon COD
- Maintain relationships with external stakeholders including utilities, landowners, permitting agencies, and power offtakers
- Oversee initial energization and ensure all commercial operation requirements are met
Requirements
- Prior experience in an Assistant Project Manager or similar role on large-scale solar or renewable energy projects
- Knowledge of contracting procedures, EPC agreements, and project financial reporting
- Ability to manage multiple project tasks from pre-construction through commissioning
- Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel and relocate for field assignments as needed
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and project scheduling software
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to meet physical demands of on-site construction support
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of project management experience in utility-scale solar or energy storage
- BS in Engineering or Construction Management; PE or PMP a plus
- Experience with BESS or wind energy projects
- Familiarity with electrical/high-voltage systems
- Experience using AutoCAD, GIS, and digital file management platforms
- Strong technical writing skills
