Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £30,075.00 - £32,108.00 Per Annum

We are looking for an Assistant Legal Advisor to support the RSPB’s Data Protection Officer who leads the RSPB’s data protection and fundraising compliance.


What's the role about?


It is the RSPB’s belief that respectful stewardship of personal data is essential in retaining the trust of our supporters. You will provide support to the Data Protection Officer and specialist advice on Data Protection (UK GDPR/Data Protection Act 2018) and Fundraising laws and regulations across the UK, EU and internationally.


This includes advice on process changes to ensure RSPB operates in a compliant way. You will be involved on investigations and complaints about data breaches and responsible for the management, administration and delivery of matters in relation to Data Subjects Rights, including Data Subject Access Requests and Right to be Forgotten requests.


Essential skills, knowledge and experience:


  • Good knowledge and experience of working in connection to Data Protection and fundraising requirements.
  • Able to communicate effectively and work as part of team.
  • Good planning and organisational skills, and experience of working independently and resolving issues and challenges.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive and flexible approach to working.
  • IT literate, sound knowledge of MS Office and conversant with electronic communications including SharePoint.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Experience of and ability to understand and interpret the requirements of staff and volunteers.


Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:


  • Able to review and interpret complex documents and assess relevance to RSPB.
  • Able to independently research aspects of regulation and legislation.
